Community Service

Community service is performed by someone or a group of people for the benefit of the public or its institutions. Performing community service is not the same as volunteering, since it is not always performed on a voluntary basis.

The organization I worked for is Fowler senior class of 2016. They help by raising money for the seniors of 2016, so they can do fun activities.

This organization is to help raise money for senior activities such as senior prom, senior trip, senior breakfast and other senior related activities.
I stood outside and collected ten dollars from each car that wanted to park for the S.U. game. The city school district let us use their parking lot to raise the money.

It was very cold that day and we were outside holding signs up. And only two seniors showed up to help. But the good thing is we had a lot of people coming through which raised a lot of money, and we also got some delicious donuts for helping. Another good thing is that a lot of people wanted to park with us because we were charging the cheapest. Some people were even nice enough that they gave us extra money just because they wanted to help. When we first got there the gates were open and some people were already parked and so we lost money. And even though two seniors showed up it wasn’t that bad because we took turn with collecting the money and holding the sign. And we also had a lot of donuts to ourselves. But I feel that if more people cared then more people would’ve showed up.
I feel like people should do more community service, it helps them build character and teaches you to help others. Not a lot of people care now and days, so we can’t help our community if no one cares. I feel like I made a big difference by helping, because I was one of the only two there helping and we raised a lot of money. And if no one showed up we wouldn’t have no prom of senior trip or anything. I think everyone should do community service, because it teaches not to be selfish and to be kind. What I would recommend to other people if they asked me about community service I would tell them make hygiene kits for the homeless. We pass them every day and there is no group in greater need than the homeless. Apart from giving them financial assistance, there is another way you can make a difference and involve your friends and family: provide hygiene kits for the shelters to distribute. You can collect small hotel samples or purchase travel sized items to complete the kits. Reach out in your neighborhood, at your school and get the community involved. “We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.” – Jeff Warner

  1. This is a thoughtful reflection on your community service. I am glad that you felt that you made a difference. In addition you stated why community service is important and suggestions for how people can help their homeless community.
